11/14/2019 11:27:00 AM

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's golf program announced the addition of a pair of Minnesota high school products for their 2020 class with the signing of Boede Guza (6-0, Chaska, Minn./Chaska H.S.) and Josh Hebrink (6-0, Elk River, Minn./Elk River H.S.). Guza and Hebrink are the first two signees for Head Coach Brad Heppner for the 2020-21 season.

"Josh and Boede both work extremely hard in their golf game and it shows in what they have accomplished already," Heppner said. "They bring that passion and commitment that we are looking for in our players. It will be fun to watch their progress for the next four years not only on the course but in the classroom, as well."

Hebrink and Guza join a young squad for the Golden Eagles that already has shown improvement through the 2019 fall season, shooting a 305 at the Bemidji State Invite, which was the best team round for the program since Oct. 14, 2013. Minnesota Crookston has just one senior this season with Jon Lund (Sr., Tolna, N.D.). Hebrink and Guza will help to supplement a strong core of young golfers that have strong work ethics and a love of golf.

The student-athletes listed as having signed a National Letter of Intent or Offer of Admission to play men's golf at the University of Minnesota Crookston have been verified by the Minnesota Crookston compliance office once they sign the National Letter of Intent or once the student-athlete has accepted an Offer of Admission for Minnesota Crookston.

Boede Guza (6-0, Chaska, Minn./Chaska H.S.)
Guza was an All-Metro West Conference pick in 2019. He was named the Chaska H.S. Most Improved Player in 2019. Guza posted a season scoring average of 77.1 as a junior at Chaska H.S. He was the Chaska Town Course Junior Club Champion in 2018. Guza started playing golf in eighth grade. Guza shot a 72 at the Minnesota Boy's Junior PGA Championship Qualifier at Valleywood Golf Course on June 26, 2019. He shot a pair of 75's on the Minnesota Boy's Players Tour at Edinburgh Golf Course and Stillwater Country Club.

He is the son of Travis and Mara Guza. Guza was born Dec. 12, 2001. He plans to major in elementary education.

"Boede comes from a great golf program out of Chaska, Minn.," Heppner said. "Boede had a great summer and had a great finish to the MGA Jr. Boy's State Tournament with rounds of 75 and 74 on a tough golf course. He also finished tied for 15th at the Players Tour Tournament of Champions with rounds of 76 and 77. We are excited to have Boede as a part of the Minnesota Crookston men's golf program."

Josh Hebrink (6-0, Elk River, Minn./Elk River H.S.)
Hebrink was an All-Northwest Suburban Conference pick as a junior in 2019. He has lettered twice in golf at Elk River H.S., and is a three-time letter winner in academics. He has a 3.94 GPA throughout his high school career. Hebrink shot a 74 in the first round of the Players Tour Tournament of Champions. He carded a 73 on the Players Tour at GreyStone Golf Course during the Minnesota Junior PGA circuit.

"Josh has had great success on the golf course, Heppner said. "He finished tied for 19th at the  Minnesota State AAA high golf tournament last year as a junior for Elk River High School with rounds of 73 and 79 and a top four finish on the MN JR PGA players tour match play tournament this past summer.  We are excited to have Josh as a member of the Minnesota Crookston men's golf program."
