Minnesota Crookston set for two big NSIC homecoming matches with SMSU and Sioux Falls

Crookston, Minn.—The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team will look to carry the momentum over from a strong weekend, that saw Minnesota Crookston pick up three points at Winona State and Upper Iowa, with a win and a tie.

This weekend, the Golden Eagles will be part of a busy weekend during homecoming with volleyball and football set for home tilts as well. Minnesota Crookston will welcome Southwest Minnesota State University and the University of Sioux Falls for two big NSIC matches.

Last weekend, the Golden Eagles got solid goalkeeping from sophomore Athena DiMario Done (Windsor, Ontario). DiMario Done was outstanding in net in the match against Winona State, but allowed a goal at the 67' minute. After allowing that goal, the young goalkeeper kept the Warriors from putting the game away, and allowed Lindsey Daml (Jr. North Pole, Alaska) to knot the game up at the 88' minute. DiMario Done continued her shutout streak without allowing a goal against Upper Iowa in a 1-0 win. DiMario Done will look to continue on her 153 straight minutes without allowing a goal.

Offensively, the Golden Eagles have been led by the underclassmen. Maggee Hodgdon (So. Newberg, Ore.) is the leading scorer for Joe Alianiello with three goals on 11 shots, and six points on the season. Daml, and Jessica Withrow (So. Gardnerville, Nev.) have been key contributors as well with two points apiece.

That youth has been key on the back end for Minnesota Crookston as well. Mataya Mierzejewski (Fr. Woodbury, Minn.) has been key, and has been really solid alongside upperclassmen, Paige Pettit (Jr. St. Michael, Minn.) and senior Jessica Scott (Post Falls, Idaho).

The improvement is evident with the young Golden Eagles squad, and they will look to continue to improve this weekend, and continue their standing in the NSIC with two teams above them in the NSIC.

A look at the Mustangs
When: Friday, Sept. 28, 3:00 p.m.
Who: Southwest Minnesota State University (2-5-0 Overall, 2-3-0)
Where: Crookston, Minn.
The Mustangs come into Crookston after losing back-to-back one goal games last weekend against MSU Moorhead, and Northern State.

Offensively, Alli Miskowiec leads the Mustangs in points, assists, and game winning goals. She is tied for first on the team in goals with three. Abbey Hoisington is second in points, and tied for first in goals, and leads the Mustangs in shots with 18.

In goal, expect to see Jessica Craigmile for SMSU. She has started every game she has played in, allowing 14 goals while facing 111 shots, and making 47 saves. Craigmile will bring a 2.29 goals against average on the season.

As a team, the Mustangs have been outscored in both the first and second period. The Mustangs have been tripled up by their opponents in the first 45 minutes 6-2, and have been outscored 9-7 in the second half.

A Look at the Cougars
When: Sunday, Sept. 30, 1:00 p.m.
Who: University of Sioux Falls (3-5-0 overall, 2-3-0 NSIC)
Where: Crookston, Minn.
The Cougars are marching into Crookston with a two match win-streak. Unlike Minnesota Crookston's Friday opponent, SMSU, Sioux Falls was able to find ways to win both of their matches last weekend both by one goal.

Lindsey Power leads the way for Sioux Falls with seven points on the season with two goals and three assists on 20 shots. Aundria Vargas, and McKayla Phillipi also play a big part in the Cougars offensive attack with four points each.

In goal, Brayden Paul has played in every single game, and every single minute in net for her squad. She has allowed 18 goals on the season with a goals against average with 2.25. Paul has recorded one shutout as well.

The Cougars have been outscored by seven in the second half. Second half woes are something that Minnesota Crookston will look to take advantage of this Sunday.
