BURNSVILLE, Minn. - University of Minnesota Crookston soccer player Emmah Burnes (Jr., MF, Tulare, Calif.) was named All-NSIC Second Team. Burnes was a team captain and helped anchor the central midfield for the Golden Eagles in her third year in the program.
Burnes is the third Golden Eagle since 2020 to earn All-NSIC honors joining fellow second team honorees Brooklyn Fischbach (2024) and Jada VanOverbeke (2021). Minnesota Crookston has had 19 student-athletes earn 23 all-conference honors since joining the NSIC in 1999.
Burnes was a key catalyst for the Golden Eagles in the center of the park. She started all 18 games, and played 1,515 minutes on the pitch. Burnes scored her first career goal on a corner kick to help the Golden Eagles defeat MSU Moorhead and maintain the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock. She finished the season with five shots, three on goal. Burnes was crucial in the improvement for the Golden Eagles in the midfield, helping to win balls and keep possession. She also does a great job of tying into the defensive core to aid Minnesota Crookston's efforts in the back end. The Golden Eagles almost doubled their goal total in 2025, with seven, and gave up 15-fewer goals from 2024, including just 14 goals in the last 12 games. Burnes will be a crucial piece of the puzzle moving forward for Minnesota Crookston.
Lauren McAlpine of Minnesota State was the Goalkeeper of the Year. Katrina Barthelt of Bemidji State was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Anna Van Wyngarden of Minnesota State earned Defensive Player of the Year. Brooke Quam of St. Cloud State was the Midfielder of the Year, while Dina Polanco of UMary was the Newcomer of the Year. Gretta Macdonald of St. Cloud State earned Coach of the Year accolades.
