BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis program lost a pair of matches Sun., March 4 at Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center. The Golden Eagles fell 9-0 to Bemidji State University and 7-2 to University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Minnesota Crookston continues to show improvement and were able to pick up their first doubles win and their first singles win of the season.
The Golden Eagles fall to 0-9 on the season. Bemidji State improves to 6-3 on the season. Wisconsin-River Falls improves to 1-9 on the 2018 season.
Adrianna Tiede (So., LeCenter, Minn.) got the first singles win of the season at the No. 3 spot as she battled back down 6-4 to win with a 6-4 second set and 10-8 third set. In doubles,
Whitney Erickson (Sr., Spring Valley, Minn.) and
Reanne Erickson (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) got the first doubles win of the season 8-5 over Molly Deering and Krista Haglund.
At the No. 1 singles slot,
Whitney Erickson fell 6-0, 6-3 to Brittany Asfeld. At the No. 2 spot, Deering upended
Reanne Erickson, 7-5, 6-4 despite a strong match by Erickson. At the No. 4 slot,
Hanna Ruckheim (So., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) was upended 6-0, 6-0 by Hannah Andress. At No. 5 singles spot,
Tori Koch (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-1 to Delanie Otto. At the No. 6 singles slot, Karli Renney (Fr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) fell by forgeit to Karli Helland.
At the No. 2 doubles spot, Tiede and Ruckheim fell 8-2 to Asfeld and Otto. At the No. 3 slot, Helland and Andress won by forfeit over Koch and Renney.
Against BSU, the Golden Eagles struggled as they lost three matches by a tally of 6-0, 6-0in singles and two matches by a tally of 8-0.
Minnesota Crookston returns to action March 24 at 2 p.m. against University of Mary in Fargo, N.D.
