BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 9-0 to University of Minnesota Duluth Thurs., March 1 at Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center in Bemidji, Minn.
The Golden Eagles fall to 0-7 on the season with Thursday's loss. Minnesota Duluth improved to 4-2 on the season with the win. Thursday's match was a rescheduled tilt after inclement weather forced the original match Feb. 18 to be postponed.
Minnesota Crookston stated out the day with the doubles portion of the match. At the No. 1 spot,
Whitney Erickson (Sr., Spring Valley, Minn.) and
Reanne Erickson (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) put up a test for the No. 1 duo of Shelby Benkofske and Megan Anderson of UMD. The Golden Eagle pair ultimately fell 8-4. At the No. 2 slot,
Hanna Ruckheim (So., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and
Adrianna Tiede (So., LeCenter, Minn.) won a pair of games against Katie Baasch and Elsa Erickson, but lost 8-2. At the No. 3 spot,
Tori Koch (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Karli Renney (Fr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) were defeated 8-0 by Jullian Klasen and Arielle Emerson.
In singles,
Whitney Erickson was able to take a game in the second set against Benkofske but fell 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 slot. At the No. 2 singles spot,
Reanne Erickson took three games, but was upended 6-1, 6-2 by Anderson. At No. 3 singles, Tiede took a pair of games in the second set, but fell 6-0, 6-2 to Elsa Erickson. At the No. 4 slot, Ruckheim was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Baasch. At the No. 5 spot, Koch was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Klasen. At No. 6 singles, Renney was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Emerson.
Minnesota Crookston will return to action March 4 as they take on University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minn. at 12 and 4:30 p.m.
