BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 loss to Bemidji State University Sun., Feb. 4 at Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center in Bemidji, Minn.

The Golden Eagles fall to 0-1 on the season. Sunday was also the first NSIC match of the season for Minnesota Crookston. Bemidji State opens the season with a 1-0 record. Sunday was the debut for Golden Eagle Head Coach Krayton Nash.

In doubles, BSU was able to sweep all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Whitney Erickson (Sr., Spring Valley, Minn.) and Reanne Erickson (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) fell 8-0 to Hannah Alme and Brooke Mimmack. At the No. 2 slot, Hanna Ruckheim (So., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and Adrianna Tiede (So., LeCenter, Minn.) were upended 8-0 by Breann Walsh and Rachel Will At the No. 3 doubles spot, Tori Koch (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Karli Renney (Fr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) fell 8-0 to Hope Johnson and Jacki Damberg.

In singles, Minnesota Crookston's No. 1 player Whitney Erickson was able to take a point off Zoe Lindgren, but fell 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Reanne Erickson had a strong first set as she got two points off Alme. However, she ultimately fell 6-0, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Tiede fell to Mimmack, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 4 slot, Ruckheim had a strong match taking a pair of points from Hannah Peterson, but she fell 6-1, 6-1. At No. 5 singles, Koch was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Johnson. At the No. 6 slot, Renney was upended 6-0, 6-0 by Walsh.

The Golden Eagles will return to action Feb. 10 at 12 p.m. against Winona State University at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
