GRAND FORKS, N.D.– The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis program fell 9-0 to Winona State University Sat., Feb. 10 at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. Minnesota Crookston showed improvement from their first match but they still came up short against the Warriors Saturday.
The Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season. The Warriors improve to 2-2 with Saturday's win.
At No. 1 singles,
Whitney Erickson (Sr., Spring Valley, Minn.) and
Reanne Erickson (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) were able to take a game off Justine Daane and Kaisey Skibba, but they fell 8-1. At the No. 2 slot,
Hanna Ruckheim (So., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and
Adrianna Tiede (So., LeCenter, Minn.) were able to take a game off Rachel Gantz and Kendra Kappes, but they fell 8-1. At the No. 3 spot, Tayla Card and Kali Hackmann picked up an 8-0 victory over
Tori Koch (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Karli Renney (Fr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.).
In singles,
Whitney Erickson competed hard in set one as she took two games off Skibba. However, she fell in the match 6-2, 6-0. At the No. 2 spot,
Reanne Erickson fell 6-0, 6-0 to Gantz. Tiede was able to take two games from Daane but she fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. At the No. 4 spot, Ruckheim was upended 6-0, 6-0 by Kappes. At No. 5 singles, Card defeated Koch, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 6 slot, Hackmann bested Renney, 6-0, 6-0.
The Golden Eagles return to action Sun., Feb. 11 at 7:30 a.m. against Upper Iowa University at Choice Health & Fitness.
