Minnesota Crookston Closes Out 2018 Slate At Lysaker Against No. 5 Northern State and MSU Moorhead

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team is set to conclude the 2018 season Fri., Nov. 2 and Sat., Nov. 3 on their home court at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles will face No. 5 Northern State University Fri., Nov. 2 at 5 p.m., followed by Minnesota State University Moorhead Sat., Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.

Saturday will be Senior Day for the Golden Eagles as they honor their lone senior Callie Schapekahm (Sr., MH, Eagan, Minn.). Schapekahm has tallied 313 career kills and 125 career blocks.
The Golden Eagles enter this weekend with a 4-22 (2-15 NSIC) record. Minnesota Crookston is looking to end the season on a strong note. The Golden Eagles have a young squad and have continued to improve throughout the season. Minnesota Crookston has almost everyone returning as they have 13 players set to return to the fray for the 2019 season.
Minnesota Crookston enters Friday hitting .119 on the season with 9.3 kills per set. The Golden Eagles have been led by Deaira Gresham (So., OH, Maplewood, Minn.), who is averaging 2.66 kills and 2.21 digs per set. In addition, Porsha Porath (Fr., OH, Windom, Minn.) comes into the weekend tallying 2.19 kills per set. Porath's best weekend came against defending NCAA National Champion Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State. Porath notched 3.1 kills per set in those two matches.
At setter, Sydney Kruisselbrink (So., S, Rochester, Minn.) is averaging 7.36 assists per set.
Defensively, the Golden Eagles have been strong on the season with 15.4 digs per set. Ali Schueler (R-Jr., DS/Lib., Howards Grove, Wis.) has paced the team with 3.43 digs per set. Katie Lienemann (So., DS/Lib., Rosemount, Minn.) has also been strong with 2.43 digs per set. On the block, Minnesota Crookston is guided by Kaitlin Sikkink (R-Jr., MH, St. Charles, Minn.) with 0.57 blocks per set.
Previewing the Wolves
 
Northern State enters the weekend looking for at least a share of the NSIC regular-season title. They are currently in a three-way tie with Minnesota Duluth and Concordia-St. Paul. The Wolves are averaging 14.4 kills per set with a .303 hitting percentage. 
 
Hailey Busch guides Northern State with 3.83 kills per set, while Laura Snyder is notching 3.19 kills per set. In addition, Jenna Reiff is averaging 2.53 kills per set, while Sally Gaul is tallying 2.38 kills per set.
At the setter spot, Ashley Rozell leads the way with 12.4 assists per set for Northern State.
 
Defensively, the Wolves are averaging 17.0 digs per set and 1.8 blocks per set. Northern State is paced by Jaiden Langlie's 4.65 digs per set, while Morgan Baufield leads the block with 0.75 blocks per set.
 
Previewing the Dragons
 
MSU Moorhead has a 10-16 mark on the 2018 season. The Dragons are tallying 10.2 kills per set with a .309 hitting percentage. MSU Moorhead is guided by Amanda Carlson's 2.92 kills per set, while Kaylyn Jenkins is averaging 2.06 kills per set. The Dragons are running a 6-2 rotation. At setter, Lauren Kiewiet leads the way with 5.48 assists per set, while Katelyn Selensky is notching 2.88 assists per set. 
 
Defensively, the Dragons are notching 16.8 digs and 2.13 blocks per set. MSU Moorhead looks to Monica Vega's 4.91 digs per set. On the block, Jenkins is notching 1.03 blocks per set, while Kylie Kanwischer is averaging 1.01 blocks per set.
