CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team wrapped up the 2017 season with a pair of 9-0 losses to Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota State University-Mankato.
The Golden Eagles finish the season with a 0-15 mark in Head Coach
Lee Meier's first season leading the ship for Minnesota Crookston tennis.
In doubles against Southwest Minnesota State,
Whitney Erickson (Jr., Spring Valley, Minn.) and
Reanne Erickson (So., Fargo, N.D.) tested Gabby Tellijohn and Hannah Starke but fell 8-3. At No. 2 doubles,
Nikki Dogan (Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.) and Ellie Brettschneider (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) made their 2017 tennis debuts falling 8-0 to Paige Janka and Britney Thompson. At the No. 3 slot,
Tien Nguyen (Sr., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) and
Tori Koch (So., Bemidji, Minn.) fell 8-0 to Britney Soupir and Jenna Gannott.
In singles,
Whitney Erickson fell 6-3, 6-2 to Tellijohn at the No. 1 slot. At No. 2 singles,
Reanne Erickson was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Starke. At the No. 3 spot, Dogan was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Janka. At the No. 4 singles slot, Brettschneider made her individual debut this season and picked up a game but fell 6-1, 6-0 to Thompson. At the No. 5 spot, Koch made her 2017 debut but fell 6-0, 6-0 to Gannott. Soupir rounded the win out for SMSU with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Nguyen.
On Sunday, Minnesota State picked up a 9-0 win over the Golden Eagles. In doubles,
Whitney Erickson and
Reanne Erickson fell 8-1 to Erin Streeter and Melissa Mashburn at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 doubles, Koch and Brettschneider were defeated 8-0 by Monika Ryan and Kelly Lechowski. At the No. 3 slot, Dogan and Nguyen were defeated by Kelly Spielman and Abby Schmidt, 8-0.
In singles, Streeter defeated
Whitney Erickson, 6-1, 6-0. At the No. 2 spot, Lechowski upended
Reanne Erickson, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Mashburn defeated Dogan, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 4 spot, Nguyen was defeated by Ryan, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Brettschneider fell 6-0, 6-0 to Spielman. At the No. 6 slot, Koch was upended by Schmidt, 6-0, 6-0.
Minnesota Crookston will look to improve as they return the core of their roster heading into the 2018 season.
