UMC Baseball Opens NSIC Slate at Winona State Sunday and Monday

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team will open up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play Sun., March 19 as they open a four-game series with Winona State University. The Golden Eagles will take on the Warriors Sunday at 1:30 and 4 p.m. and Mon., March 20 at 12 and 3:30 p.m.

Minnesota Crookston comes in with a 6-6 mark after going 3-3 last week during their trip to Clearwater, Fla. The Warriors are 0-10 on the season.

The Golden Eagles are led by their pitching so far this season. Minnesota Crookston has posted a 4.41 ERA. They have been led by their starting pitching with Cody Pamperin (Sr., RHP, Shakopee, Minn.) leading the way with a 1-0 mark and a 1.62 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched. In addition, Jusitn Yutrzenka (Fr., RHP, Argyle, Minn.) is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 16.0 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, Zach Seipel (So., RHP, Eagan, Minn.) leads the team with a 3.00 ERA and two saves in nine innings pitched.

At the plate, the U of M Crookston is hitting .252 as a team. Sophomore Reed Hjelle (1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) leads the team with a .386 batting average and eight RBI's. In addition, leadoff hitter Anthony Stewart (R-Jr., OF, Oak Harbor, Wash.) is hitting .319 with 11 runs scored, five RBI's and seven stolen bases.

Winona State is struggling on the mound as they have posted a  7.37 ERA. The Warriors have been led in the starting rotation by Mitchell Stalsberg, who is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, Parker Holmstrom has posted a 0-0 mark with a 2.39 ERA in seven innings pitched.

The Warriors' bats are led by Andrew Pilner, who is batting .357 with six runs scored and four RBI's. As a team, Winona State is hitting .251 on the season. The Warriors also look to Mitchell Reid, who is batting .350 with two runs scored and six RBI's.
