GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team opened up the 2017 season with a 9-0 loss to College of Saint Benedict Sat., Feb. 4 at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. The match was the first for UMC under Head Coach Lee Meier. The Golden Eagles battled in several matches but ultimately fell to CSB.

Minnesota Crookston opens the season with a 0-1 mark. Saint Benedict moves to 3-2 with the win.

In doubles, the Golden Eagles were led by the No. 1 pair of Whitney Erickson (Jr., Spring Valley, Minn.) and Reanne Erickson (So., Fargo, N.D.), who put up a strong match but fell 8-3 to Laura Finn and Ellen Stensrud. At No. 2 doubles, Ellen Dauphinais (Sr., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and Hanna Ruckheim (Fr., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) fell 8-0 to Tessa Rahrick and Erin Kolbow. At No. 3 doubles, Tien Nguyen (So., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) and Adrianna Tiede (Fr., LeCenter, Minn.) fell 8-0 to Kylie Miller and Lauren Clark.

In singles, Whitney Erickson fell at the No. 1 slot, 6-1, 6-1 to Finn. At the No. 2 singles spot, Reanne Erickson put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell 6-2, 6-2 to Rahrick. At the No. 3 slot, Dauphinais would fall 6-1, 6-0 to Koblow. At No. 4 singles, Ruckheim was able to take two points off of Stensrud but she would fall 6-1, 6-1. At the no. 5 slot, CSB's Gabbie Noack would win 6-1, 6-0 over Tiede.  Ashley Kraemer would round out the win with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Nguyen.

Minnesota Crookston will return to action Feb. 11 with matches against Upper Iowa University and Winona State University in Winona, Minn.
