DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 9-0 to St. Cloud State University Sun., Feb. 19 at Arrowhead Tennis Center in Duluth, Minn. The Golden Eagles drop to 0-6 on the season with Sunday's loss.
"We had some long matches on the day," said Head Coach
Lee Meier. "We competed well and I thought the team score was not indicative of our play. Our team is picking it up and we are showing improvement game by game."
In doubles, the Golden Eagles dropped the No. 1 pairing 8-0 as
Whitney Erickson (Jr., Spring Valley, Minn.) and
Alyssa Petersen (Fr., Robbinsdale, Minn.) fell to Alexie Portz and Jill Kedrowski. At No. 2 doubles,
Hanna Ruckheim (Fr., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and
Adrianna Tiede (Fr., LeCenter, Minn.) fell 8-0 to Fernanda Quintino dos Santos and Sommer Kopff. At the No. 3 slot,
Tien Nguyen (So., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) and
Reanne Erickson (So., Fargo, N.D.) fell 8-0 to Ann Marie White and Auggie Gorecki.
In singles,
Whitney Erickson would take two sets but would fall 6-1, 6-1 to Quintino dos Santos. At No. 2 singles, Petersen fell 6-0, 6-0 to Portz. At the No. 3 slot, Ruckheim fell 6-0, 6-0 to Kedrowski. At the No. 4 spot, Tiede played perhaps her best match of her early career, but she would fall 6-3, 6-2 to White. At No. 5 singles,
Reanne Erickson fell 6-0, 6-0 to Gorecki. Nguyen would round things out as she fell to Kopff, 6-0, 6-0.
Minnesota Crookston will return to action Feb. 25 as they host University of Sioux Falls at 10:30 a.m. at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
