CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team will open up their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) slate Sat., Feb. 11 as they head to Winona, Minn., for a doubleheader against Upper Iowa University and Winona State University. UMC will take on the Peacocks at 12:30 p.m. and the Warriors at 7 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are 0-1 on the season after falling 9-0 to College of Saint Benedict Sat., Feb. 4 in Grand Forks, N.D. UMC is led by
Whitney Erickson (Jr., Spring Valley, Minn.) at the No. 1 position. She enters with a 0-1 mark.
Reanne Erickson (So., Fargo, N.D.) comes in with a 0-1 mark at the No. 2 slot. Reanne and
Whitney Erickson team up at the No. 1 doubled slot, where they are currently 0-1.
Minnesota Crookston is in their first season under Head Coach
Lee Meier, who was a long-time assistant tennis coach at Crookston High School.
Upper Iowa will officially open up the season against UMC Saturday. The Peacocks went 13-9 in competition last season. Isabella Sella played No. 2 singles for Upper Iowa last season, where she posted a 10-8 mark. Kelly Jachymowski was at the No. 3 slot for the Peacocks, where she posted a 4-5 record. Anna Okolot and Jachymowski posted a 3-5 mark at No. 2 singles last season.
Winona State also opens up the season on Sat., Feb. 11 against Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State University. The Warriors posted a 3-12 mark during the 2016 season. Winona State is led by Justine Daane at the No. 1 slot. She posted a 6-8 mark at No. 1 singles last season. Rachel Gantz posted a 7-7 record at No. 2 singles last season. Daane and Gantz posted a 7-8 mark at No. 1 doubles last season.
