Box Score Marshall, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team has done a great job of limiting their opponents' offensive chances over the past couple of weeks. The team defense did its job again on Saturday only allowing one goal in their road conference match, but it was the difference as Crookston was defeated 1-0 by Southwest Minnesota State University.
Neither team scored in the opening frame with SMSU outshooting the Golden Eagles 6-1 through 45 minutes of play. The second half was a draw in shots as each team got off seven shots, with the game winner coming in the 65
th minute of play when Alexandra Miskowiec (So., Andover, Minn.) sent a cross in from the end line that was put home by senior forward Amanda Hartman (Savage, Minn.). The goal is the Mustangs seventh team goal of the season, the fourth by Hartman.
UM Crookston's
Olivia Puttin (Rogers, Minn.) picked up the loss in goal as she gave up the lone score all while facing 13 total Mustang shots. Crookston got off eight shots, five of which made it on net. Seniors
Maggie Gibbons (Cohasset, Minn.) and
Ellie Brettschneider (Lakeville, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles offensive effort as they each took two shots. Both of Brettscneider's made it on goal but were stopped by Southwest's goalkeeper Jenna Meyer (Fr., Deerfield, Wisc.).
The Golden Eagle will look to bounce back tomorrow as they travel to Sioux Falls to take on the Cougars of the University of Sioux Falls. The NSIC match is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm. USF was defeated 2-0 by Bemidji State earlier today.
