CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team will head down the road 88 miles on U.S. Highway 2 Tues., Sept. 20 to take on Bemidji State University. The Golden Eagles will take on the Beavers at 7 p.m. at BSU Gymnasium in Bemidji, Minn.
Minnesota Crookston
The Golden Eagles enter Tuesday with a 4-6 (0-2 NSIC) mark. UMC was close against St. Cloud State University Saturday, but struggled in the fifth set as they fell 3-2 to the Huskies.
Minnesota Crookston comes in hitting .175 as a team. The Golden Eagles have had good balance thus far offensively.
Maggie Perrel (R-Jr., OH, New Germany, Minn.) leads the Golden eagles with 2.88 kills per set. She is hitting .118 on the season. Perrel is averaging 2.32 digs per set.
In addition to Perrel,
Kelci Green (R-Jr., MH, Anoka, Minn.) has been strong in the middle with 2.26 kills per set and a .321 hitting percentage. Defensively, Green is averaging 0.71 blocks per set. Green is joined in the middle by
Callie Schapekahm (So., MH, Eagan, Minn.), who is averaging 1.96 kills per set and 0.56 blocks per set.
UMC also is getting production out of
Kassi Green (R-Jr., OH, Anoka, Minn.), who is averaging 1.97 kills per set and
Kali Erickson (Sr., OH, Fargo, N.D.), who is averaging 1.70 kills per set.
At setter,
Sierra Trost (Sr., S, Ham Lake, Minn.) has been a four-year starter for the Golden Eagles. Trost is tallying 9.06 assists per set and 2.53 digs per frame for Minnesota Crookston.
Defensively,
Ali Schueler (R-Fr., DS/Lib., Howards Grove, Wis.) continues to improve in her first season at libero for Minnesota Crookston. Schueler is averaging 3.53 digs per set. She has helped the UMC defense limit teams to a .187 hitting percentage on the season.
Bemidji State
The Beavers enter Tuesday with a 5-5 (1-1 NSIC) record. Bemidji State is in their first season under Head Coach Kevin Ulmer. The Beavers got the better of the Golden Eagles in a non-conference tilt earlier this season in Sioux Falls, S.D. by the score of 3-0.
Bemidji State has been led by two seniors in Jessica Yost and Amanda Tronick. The pair is accounting for just under half of the team's offense this season. Yost has been strong with 4.08 kills per set and a .268 hitting percentage. Tronick comes in averaging 3.11 kills per set and a .241 hitting percentage.
In addition to their senior duo, Julie Touchett enters Tuesday averaging 1.68 kills per set.
At setter, the Beavers have utilized two players. Shelby Haney comes in tallying 5.19 kills per set, while Jordyn Koehn is averaging 4.50 kills per set.
Defensively, Bemidji State is led by Emma Hallmann's 3.24 digs per set. Tronick is tallying 2.65 kills per set, while Yost is averaging 2.54 kills per set.
On the block, Heather Fletcher is leading the charge with 1.07 blocks per set, while Touchett is tallying 0.70 kills per set.
