GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 8-1 to Bemidji State University Sun., March 6 at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-8 on the season with Sunday's loss. UMC was led by
Catherine Brown (Sr., Powell Butte, Ore.), who posted her fourth singles win of the season by taking down Shaylin Prout at the No. 1 slot.
In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Brown and
Whitney Erickson (So., Spring Valley, Minn.) fell 8-2 to Morgan Opp and Zoe Lindgren. At No. 2 doubles,
Nikki Dogan (So., Grand Forks, N.D.) and
Bailey Morris (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) fell 8-2 to Claudia Bellew and Justine Scheller. At the No. 3 slot, BSU's Hope Johnson and Sabrina Okeson upended
Tien Nguyen (Fr., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) and
Reanne Erickson (Fr., Fargo, N.D.), 8-1.
In singles, Brown picked up the win over Prout, 7-6, 6-3, to pick up the season sweep over her rival. At No. 2, Opp defeated
Whitney Erickson, 6-3, 6-0. At the No. 3 slot, Bellew defeated Morris, 6-0, 6-2. At No. 4 singles, Justine Scheller defeated
Reanne Erickson, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 5, Breann Walsh won because of injury over Dogan and at No. 6, Jessica Dulz defeated Nguyen, 6-0, 6-0.
The Golden Eagles will return to action with three Spring Break matches in Hilton Head, S.C. They will take on Shepherd University, March 14, Edgewood College, March 15 and Fairmont State University, March 18.
