HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team opened their trip to Hilton Head, S.C. with an 8-1 loss to Edgewood College. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-9 on the season with the loss. Minnesota Crookston was led by the fifth singles victory of the season from
Catherine Brown (Sr., Powell Butte, Ore.), who is 5-4 at the No. 1 singles slot this season.
In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Brown and
Whitney Erickson (So., Spring Valley, Minn.) fell 8-3 to Morgan Wilson and Anna Miles. At No. 2 doubles, Edgewood's Jaclyn Swift and Maddie George defeated
Bailey Morris (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) and
Nikki Dogan (So., Grand Forks, N.D.), 8-1. At the No. 3 slot,
Reanne Erickson (Fr., Fargo, N.D.) and
Tien Nguyen (Fr., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) fell to Libby Protz and Haley Brooks, 8-0.
In singles, Brown won 6-4, 6-1 over Wilson at No. 1. At No. 2 singles,
Whitney Erickson fell 7-5, 7-5 to Miles, despite a very hard-fought match. At the No. 3 slot, Morris fell to Brooks, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 4 singles,
Reanne Erickson battled to three sets but fell to Rhea Bradley, 2-6, 6-2, 10-4. At No. 5, Dogan lost to Brittany Grafton, 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 6 singles slot, Nguyen fell to Jamie Winquist, 6-0, 6-0.
