CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team will take on Bemidji State University and Concordia College Moorhead to open up the 2016 season. The Golden Eagles will battle the Beavers Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center. UMC will take on the Cobbers of Concordia Sat., Feb. 7 at 9:30 a.m. in Fargo, N.D.
The Golden Eagles are in their second season under Head Coach
Ryan McGuigan. The Golden Eagles return the majority of their roster from the 2015 season. UMC is led by senior
Catherine Brown (Powell Butte, Ore.), who was 5-10 at the No. 1 singles spot during the 2015 season. At No. 2 singles,
Whitney Erickson (So., Spring Valley, Minn.) returns after going 2-13 as a freshman. Brown and Erickson were 2-12 at No. 1 singles last season.
Also returning for the Golden Eagles are
Nikki Dogan (So., Grand Forks, N.D.) and
Christina Smith (So., Oylen, Minn.) also return. UMC has three newcomers on the season with
Reanne Erickson (Fr., Fargo, N.D.),
Bailey Morris (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) and
Tien Nguyen (Fr., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam).
Bemidji State went 5-10 on the 2015 season. They are led at No. 1 by Shaylin Prout and No. 2 by Deanie Hatch. Prout went 10-5, while Hatch went 7-7. At No. 1 doubles, Hatch and Prout went 7-7 on the season.
Concordia Moorhead went 2-13 on the 2015 season. The Cobbers are led at No. 1 singles by Brittany Glatt, while Jade Haseltine played No. 2 singles last season. Concordia used the No. 1 duo of Glatt and Kendra Stoick last season.
