BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 7-2 to University of Minnesota Duluth and 9-0 to St. Cloud State University at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center in Bemidji, Minn. Minnesota Crookston falls to 0-5 on the season.
Minnesota Crookston was led on the weekend by
Catherine Brown (Sr., Powell Butte, Ore.) and
Whitney Erickson (So., Spring Valley, Minn.), who both picked up singles wins Saturday against Minnesota Duluth. Brown has a 3-2 mark at No. 1 singles on the 2016 season.
Brown defeated Drew DeCorsey 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Erickson upended Shelby Benkofske, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7. At the No. 3 singles slot,
Bailey Morris (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-1 to Kaitlin Wohnoutka. At the No. 4 slot,
Nikki Dogan (So., Grand Forks, N.D.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Jillian Klasen. At the No. 5 singles spot, UMD's Katie Baasch defeated
Reanne Erickson (Fr., Fargo, N.D.), 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 6 spot,
Tien Nguyen (Fr., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Mikayla Gottwait, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Brown and
Whitney Erickson fell 9-7 to DeCorsey and Benkofske. At the No. 2 doubles spot, Morris and Dogan fell 8-1 to Klasen and Kelsey Zetah. At the No. 3 doubles spot, Karly Weber and Baasch fell 8-0 to Nguyen and
Reanne Erickson.
On Sunday against St. Cloud State, UMC fell 9-0. In doubles, Brown and
Whitney Erickson fell 8-2 to Abigail Kantor and Fernanda Quintino dos Santos. At No. 2 doubles, Dogan and Morris fell 8-1 to Marilla Roque Diversi and Miranda Wynkoop. At the No. 3 slot, Nguyen and
Reanne Erickson dropped 8-0 to Jamie Voelker and Jordee Matson.
In singles, Brown was upended 6-2, 6-3 by El O'Brien. At the No. 2 spot, Voelker defeated
Whitney Erickson, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Morris fell 6-2, 6-3 to Alexis Portz. At No. 4 singles, Dos Santos upended Dogan, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Jill Kedrowski defeated
Reanne Erickson, 6-1, 6-1. At the No 6 slot, Nguyen fell 6-0, 6-0 to Matson.
The Golden Eagles will continue the 2016 season Feb. 27 against Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D.
