CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team will host Bemidji State University Tues., Sept. 22 at Lysaker Stadium at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles come into the match with a 5-5 (1-1 NSIC) mark after a strong week battling No. 1 University of Minnesota Duluth in a 3-0 loss and picking up a 3-0 win over St. Cloud State University. UMC's rival Bemidji State comes in with a 2-9 (0-2 NSIC) mark.
Minnesota Crookston Preview
The Golden Eagles will look to build off their last week as they start the week with Bemidji State Tuesday. Minnesota Crookston has found success with a balanced offense thus far in 2015 as they have looked to replace the output of graduated all-time kills leader and 2014 All-NSIC First Team pick Brittany Looker. UMC has been led on the season by right-side hitter
Maggie Perrel (R-So., New Germany, Minn.), who is averaging 3.05 kills and 2.31 digs per set. In addition to Perrel,
Stephanie Pearson (Sr., OH, Frankfort, Ill.), who has had a strong start to her final season in Maroon and Gold. Pearson averaged 2.67 kills and 4.15 digs per set.
UMC has also become more multidimensional with the play of their middle hitters this season.
Kelci Green (R-So., MH, Anoka, Minn.) is averaging 2.00 kills and 0.95 blocks per set.
Erin Schwarz (Jr., MH, Eden Prairie, Minn.) is coming off a strong week. Schwarz averaged 2.67 kills per set last week and hit .640. Schwarz is averaging 1.90 kills and 0.92 blocks per set.
At setter,
Sierra Trost (Jr., Ham Lake, Minn.) is also coming off a great week. Trost averaged 13 assists per set in the two matches last week. The junior is averaging 10.21 assists per set and 2.90 digs per set.
Defensively, Pearson has led the team, along with Perrel, Trost and libero
Casey Cashman, who is averaging 3.31 digs per set.
Kaycie Hagen has also been an integral part of the team defense, averaging 2.36 digs per set.
Bemidji State PreviewThe Beavers are in their sixth season under Wayne Chadwick. Bemidji State is 2-7 (0-2 NSIC) after falling to St. Cloud State and No. 1 Minnesota Duluth last week. The Beavers are led by their pair of junior outside hitters. Amanda Tronick leads the team averaging 2.85 kills and 1.10 digs per set. Jessica Yost is averaging 2.58 and 2.72 digs per set.
Bemidji State has utilized two setters this season. Ashley Kiecker is leading the team with 4.68 assists per set, while Jordyn Koehn is averaging 4.43 digs per set.
Defensively, libero Kayla DeJong is averaging 4.30 digs per set. On the block, Hailey Kauling leads the team with 0.60 blocks per set, while Kori Leist is averaging 0.55 blocks per set.
