Box Score GRAND FORKS, N.D.- The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball program fell 14-5 to NCAA Division I school University of North Dakota Mon., April 6 at Kraft Memorial Stadium. The Golden Eagles fall to 8-22 on the season, while North Dakota improved to 9-16 on the season. UMC took an early 5-1 lead on UND, but the North Dakota bats would come alive as they would have 18 hits on the game.
The Golden Eagles would start the scoring in the top of the first when
Thomas Kinsella (Jr., IF, North Branch, Sports and Rec Management) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score
Dalton Parks (Jr., OF, West Valley City, Utah/Sports and Rec Management).
Colton Haight (Jr., C/OF, Rogers, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) would continue the scoring with a base knock into center to score
Ethan Mushitz (Fr., 2B/SS, East Grand Forks, Minn./Criminal Justice). Haight's hit would chase UND starter Andrew Favaro from the game.
With Ben Clark on to pitch in relief,
Kenny Perez (Jr., DH/1B, Orlando, Fla./Health Science) would double to score
Ryan Haggstrom (Jr., 1B/RHP, Apple Valley, Minn./Accounting). Haight would score on an error by the short stop to extend the early advantage to 4-0.
The Golden Eagles would add a run in the top of the second when Parks grounded out but would drive in
Patrick Higgins (So., OF, Eagan, Minn./Criminal Justice), who tripled to lead off the inning.
UND added a run in the bottom of the second when Dalton Parrott doubled to drive in Dalton Leuschke to cut the North Dakota deficit to 5-1.
UND would cut the lead to 5-4 in the third. Jeff Campbell doubled to left center to plate Tyler Follis. They would add another run in the third as Ryan Reese singled to drive in Campbell. Daniel Lockhert would then double to drive in Reese.
North Dakota would load up the bases early on in the fourth chasing UMC starter
Colt Trebesch.
Cody Pamperin (So., RHP, Shakopee, Minn./Golf and Turf Management) would come on to relieve Trebesch. UND would score a run in the as Hunter Walsh scored on a Sam Alt double play ball. Tyler Follis then hit an inside the park home run, also driving in Parrott to put UND on top 7-5.
UND would add three in the bottom in the sixth off UMC lefy
Alan Frank (Sr., LHP, St. Michael, Minn./Applied Studies).
North Dakota would add three more in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead to 13-5 over the Golden Eagles. Lockhert would score on a sacrifice fly for North Dakota in the bottom of the eighth to extend the UND advantage to 14-5.
Trebesch would suffer the loss after going three-plus innings and giving up six earned runs on eight hits.
Ben Clark would get the win after strong pitching in relief for UND. Clark would go 5.2 innings and give up one earned run on four hits.
The Golden Eagles were led on the game by Mushitz, who was 2-of-4 with one run scored.
UND looked to Follis, who was 4-of-5 with three RBI's and four runs scored. Campbell was 3-of-3 with two RBI's and one run scored.
The Golden Eagles will take on Bemidji State University at 1 and 3 p.m. Wed., April 8 at the UMC Baseball Field
