Golden Eagles Host Minnesota Duluth Wednesday

CROOKSTON, Minn.-  The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team will host University of Minnesota Duluth Wed., April 15 at 1 and 3 p.m. at the UMC Baseball Field. The Golden Eagles are continuing a 12-game home stand.

The Golden Eagles enter Wednesday with a 9-27 (3-17 NSIC) record. UMC is just one win shy of tying their best record in school history, which was 10 wins during the 2012 season. Minnesota Crookston is hitting .286 on the season. Kenny Perez (Jr., IF/DH, Orlando, Fla./Health Science) is hitting .343 with 19 runs scored and 28 runs batted in (RBI's), which leads the team. Perez ranks tied for 14th in the NSIC for RBI's. He is tied for fourth in the league with 14 doubles. Ryan Haggstrom (Jr., 1B/RHP, Apple Valley, Minn./Accounting) has had a strong season for the Golden Eagles, hitting .343 with 28 runs scored and 24 RBI's. Haggstrom ranks tied for second with three triples and is fourth in the league for hits with 48. Haggstrom is tied for 4th with Ethan Mushitz (Fr., 2B/SS, East Grand Forks, Minn.) for stolen bases.

In addition to Perez and Haggstrom, Jesse Jennings (Sr., OF, Robbinsdale, Minn./Criminal Justice) comes in hitting .370 with 14 runs scored, one double, two triples, one home run and 15 RBI's. Dalton Parks (Jr., OF, West Valley City, Utah/Sports and Rec Management) leads the league with 30 walks.

On the mound, Nolan Wahlberg (Jr., RHP, Blaine, Minn./Criminal Justice) leads the way with a 4-3 mark and a 4.15 earned runs average (ERA) in 56.1 innings pitched, which leads the NSIC. Out of the bullpen, Wyatt Huso (R-Fr., Eagan, Minn./Agricultural Systems Management) and Cody Pamperin (So., RHP, Shakopee, Minn./Golf and Turf Management) lead the way. Huso is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 12 innings pitched, while Pamperin is 2-2 with a 5.82 ERA in 17.0 innings. Jarad Nelson (Jr., RHP, Karlstad, Minn./Education) has also had several quality outings for UMC as a starter. Nelson is 2-2 with a 6.84 ERA in 48.2 innins pitched.

Minnesota Duluth enters Wednesday with a 17-11 (11-7 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles last defeated UMD with a 4-3 victory April 27, 2013. The Bulldogs took a series over Winona State 3-1 last weekend. UMD has been led by Jimmy Heck, who is hitting .396 with 24 runs scored, nine doubles and 26 RBI's. In addition to Heck, Alex Wojciechowski is batting .394 with 26 runs scored, two home runs and 21 RBI's. The Bulldogs are hitting .312 as a team.

UMD's pitching staff has been led by Nick Dorfman, who is 3-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 32.0 innings pitched with 17 strikeouts. Bo Hellquist is 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA in 30.1 innings pitched.
