UMC Tennis Falls 9-0 to Bemidji State

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston fell 9-0 to Bemidji State University Sun., March 29 at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. The Golden Eagles' record moved to 0-13 on the season, while Bemidji State improved to 3-9 on the season.

At doubles, the No. 1 duo of Catherine Brown (Jr., Powell Butte, Ore./Animal Science) and Whitney Erickson (Fr., Spring Valley, Minn./Elementary Education) fell to Shaylin Prout and Deanie Hatch, 8-4. At the No. 2 slot, Christina Smith (Fr., Oylen, Minn./Communication) and Nikki Dogan (Fr., Grand Forks, N.D./Health Science) fell to Caley Westin and Rachel Franklin, 8-0. At the No. 3 doubles spot, Rachelle Alcini (Sr., Ann Arbor, Mich./Health Science) and Chelsea Burrows (So., Eagan, Minn.) were defeated 8-0 by Claudia Bellew and Sabrina Okeson.

In singles, Brown gave Prout a lot of trouble, but fell 7-5, 7-5, despite the hard-fought match at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 singles, Erickson fell to Westin, 6-3, 6-3. At the No. 3 slot, B SU's Bellew defeated Smith, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Dogan fell to Justine Scheller, 6-0, 6-1. At the No. 5 spot, Alcini was defeated by Okeson, 6-1, 6-0. At the No. 6 singles spot, Anna Buck of BSU upended Burrows, 6-0, 6-0.

Minnesota Crookston will take on Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato April 11 at 1 and 5 p.m., respectively.
