BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team fell to Augustana College (S.D.) 9-0 and University of Sioux Falls 8-1 Saturday at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center in Bemidji, Minn. Saturday. The Golden Eagles dropped Sunday's match to Bemidji State University in Bemidji. The Golden Eagles are 0-9 on the 2015 season.
In doubles against Sioux Falls, at No. 1 doubles
Catherine Brown (Jr., Powell Butte, Ore./Animal Science) and
Whitney Erickson (Fr., Spring Valley, Minn./Early Childhood Education) fell to Ali Kauss and Stacey Beard, 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, the Cougars' Kara Bunkers and Emily Erickson upended
Christina Smith (Fr., Oylen, Minn./Communications) and
Rachelle Alcini (Sr., Ann Arbor, Mich./Health Science) 8-0. Sioux Falls won No. 3 doubles by default.
In singles, Brown defeated Kauss as the Sioux Falls player fell in set one and withdrew in set two due to injury. At No. 2 singles, Beard defeated Erickson, 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 3 singles slot, Emily Erickson defeated Smith, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, USF's Morgan Robey upended Alcini, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 5 slot, Haylie Noha defeated
Chelsea Burrows (So., Eagan, Minn.), 6-0, 6-0.
In Saturday's second match, UMC would fall 9-0 to Augustana.At No. 1 doubles, Jessa Richards and Sydney Postal defeated Brown and Erickson, 8-0. At the No. 2 doubles spot, Heather Sullivan and Christine Olivo upended Smith and Alcini, 8-0. At the No. 3 slot, Augustana won due to adefault.
At No. 1 singles, Richards defeated Brown, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 2 spot, Postal upended Erickson, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Berkley Darr took down Smith, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Jenna Helleberg defeated Alcini, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Meredith Lawrence defeated Burrows, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 6, Sullivan won by forfeit.
Sunday, the Golden Eagles fell 9-0 to Bemidji State. At No. 1 doubles, Shaylin Prout and Deanie Hatch defeated Brown and Erickson, 8-3. At the No. 2 slot, Caley Westin and Rachel Franklin upended Smith and Burrows, 8-0. At the No. 3 doubles spot, Sabrina Okeson and Justine Scheller defeated Alcini and
Nikki Dogan (Fr., Grand Forks, N.D./Health Science), 8-0.
In singles, Prout defeated Brown in three sets. Brown took the first set, 6-2, but Prout would win 6-3, 10-8 in the final two sets. At No. 2 singles, Hatch would defeat Erickson in three after falling in a tiebreaker in game one. She would take the final two sets to secure the win. At No. 3, Westin defeated Smith, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 4 singles spot, Franklin upended Alcini, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Scheller upended Burrows, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 6 singles, Anna Markgraf defeated Dogan, 6-0, 6-0.
UMC will face Concordia College Moorhead March 8 at 3 p.m. at Choice Health and Fitness March 8.
