MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team hit 13 three-pointers as they dominated University of Wisconsin-Stout 74-51 at Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie, Wis. The Golden Eagles improve to 1-1 on the season with the victory, while the Blue Devils fall to 0-1 on the season.
UMC was 13-of-25 for 52 percent from beyond the arc led by a great performance by lone senior
Derrick Redd, Jr. (Sr., G, Menifee, Calif.), who had 15 points and four assists. Redd was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, showing his improved range this season. Redd was 5-of-8 from the field. UMC continued to get a spark from te bench as the bench tallied 38 points led by 15 points from
Chase Knickerbocker (Fr. ,G/F, Annandale, Minn.), who was 6-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Ben Grygiel (Jr., F, Rockford, Ill.) continued his strong play on the weekend with 13 points on 4-of-6 from the field.
The Golden Eagles were 26-of-49 from the field for 53.1 percent and were 9-of-12 from the charity stripe.
The Golden Eagles were out-rebounded 32-28. UMC was led on the glass by six boards from
Nate Lorenz (Fr., F/C, Breckenridge, Minn.), who added six points.
Wisconsin-Stout was led by seven points off the bench from Keegan Dickson. John Keefe and Brett Ahsenbacher each added six, as did Isaac Elliott and Justin Thomas. The Blue Devils were 23-of-57 for 40.4 percent from the field but were just 3-of-12 for 25 percent from beyond the arc and 2-of-4 from the charity stripe. They were led on the boards by Dickson's six boards.
UMC got out to a 39-28 lead at half-time over Wisconsin-Stout. The Golden Eagles were led by seven points from Gyrgiel in the first half. Knickerbocker, Lorenz, Redd and
Kobe Critchley (Fr., G, Roseville, Minn.) each added six points in the first half. UMC was 13-of-26 from the field for 50 percent in the first half and 7-of-15 for 46.7 percent from beyond the arc.
The Golden Eagles out-scored the Blue Devils 35-23 in the second half. Redd led the way with nine points on 3-of-4 from the field. Knickerbocker also had nine. UMC was 13-of-23 for 56.6 percent from the field in the second half and they were 6-of-10 for 60.0 percent from three.
