Golden Eagles Fall 75-69 in Season Opener Against Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball team fell 75-69 to Waldorf College Fri., Nov. 13 at Denny Jerome Court at Hanson Fieldhouse. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-1 on the season, while Waldorf improved to 2-1.

The Golden Eagles were led by a strong performance off the bench by Ben Grygiel (Jr., F, Rockford, Ill.), who was moved to the bench after struggling in exhibition play. Grygiel had 15 points and eight rebounds on 6-of-12 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Nate Lorenz (Fr. F/C, Breckenridge, Minn.) added 11 points and six boards. C.J. Polk (So., G, Milwaukee, Wis.) had nine points and six boards, while Derrick Redd, Jr. (Sr., G, Menifee, Calif.) chipped in eight points.

The Golden Eagles had 35 points off the bench led by Grygiel. Chase Knickerbocker (Fr., G/F, Annandale, Minn.) added eight, while Xavier Hall (Jr., G, Woodbury, Minn.) added six points and had three assists.

UMC finished the game shooting 27-of-66 from the field for 40.9 percent and were 8-of-27 for 29.6 percent.

Waldorf shot 29-of-57 from the field for 50.9 percent and were 7-of-17 from beyond the arc for 41.2 percent. The Warriors were led by 21 points from Erik Brewer, who was 7-of-15 from the field. Michael Morgan added a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards. June Prowell chipped in 12 points and had seven assists, while Tyler Parrish came off the bench for 10.

The Golden Eagles will return to action Sat., Nov. 14 as they take on University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wis., at 5 p.m.
