ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-21) to No. 3 Concordia University, St. Paul Saturday at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn. The Golden Eagles fall to 8-8 (2-6 NSIC), while Concordia improves to 14-2 (7-1 NSIC). The seven-time NCAA Division II defending National Champions were too much for UMC out-hitting the Golden Eagles .406 to .095.
The highlight of the night for UMC was
Brittany Looker (Sr., OH, Rochester, Minn./Health Science) surpassing Allison Kluck's all-time kills mark with 13 kills on the night. She now has 1,277 all-time kills for UMC. In addition, she is inching closer to the 1,000 dig mark. She needs just 27 digs and she will become the third player in school history to achieve 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs, joining Joan Ebnet and Kendra Corneliusen.
UMC wasn't able to get much else going outside of Looker's 13 kills. UMC hit .095 on the match with 19 errors.
Kaycie Hagen (Fr., S, Savage, Minn.) led the way with 13 assists, while
Sierra Trost (So., S, Ham Lake, Minn./Health Science) added 12. Defensively,
Becca Vandenheuvel (Fr., Lib., Cannon Falls, Minn./Elementary Education) led the way with 13.
Kelci Green (R-Fr., MH, Anoka, Minn./Biology) led the block with one solo block and three block assists.
Concordia was led by 13 kills from Emma Lange, who hit .550 for the match. Anna Schlaak added 12 kills and hit .455, while Riley Hanson added 11 kills and hit .364. At setter, Kasey Williams led the way with 39 assists. Taylor Dordan led the way defensively with 12 digs, while Schlaak completed a double-double with 11. Heather Schiller led the Concordia block with five block assists.
UMC will return home next weekend to face Winona State University Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. and Upper Iowa University Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.
