CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team struggled from the onset Saturday night as they fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-15) to Minnesota State University Moorhead on Homecoming at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles drop to 9-12 (3-10 NSIC), while MSU Moorhead improves to 9-12 (4-9 NSIC) with the win.
The Golden Eagles hit just .042 on the night with 29 kills and 24 errors as they struggled to get much going on the night.
Brittany Looker (Sr., OH, Rochester, Minn./Health Science) led the way with nine kills, but also had six errors.
Sierra Trost (So., S, Ham Lake, Minn./Health Science) tallied 16 assists on the night.
The standout player was libero
Mary Mikutowski (Sr., Lib., Stillwater, Minn./Health Science), who continued her strong play with 25 digs. Mikutowski averaged 8.3 digs per set. Looker tallied 14 digs.
Kelci Green (R-Fr., MH, Anoka, Minn./Biology) led the block with two solo blocks and six block assists.
MSU Moorhead hit .209 for the match. The Dragons looked to Kaitlin VanWinkle with 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Maggie Gruber chipped in 10 kills for the Dragons. Sam Sullivan led the team with 21 assists.
Defensively, the Dragons had three players with double-figure digs led by Abby Wolpern and Amber Krenske, who each had 15. On the block, Kelsey Hartkopf led the way with five block assists.
The Golden Eagles will return to action Oct. 24 as they head to University of Mary and then Oct. 25 on the road against Minot State University.
