CROOKSTON, Minn. – University of Minnesota Crookston athletic director Stephanie Helgeson announced that head women's tennis coach Josh Lunak has resigned his position in the athletic department to spend more time with his family. Lunak will remain at UMC as an admissions counselor.
“I would like to thank Josh for his dedication to the UMC women's tennis program and the athletic department as a whole over the past six seasons as head women's tennis coach,” Helgeson said. “We appreciate everything that he has done for the program and will enjoy continuing to work with him in his position as an admissions counselor here at UMC.”
Lunak took over as the head women's tennis coach in July of 2007 and coached the team for six seasons. After going winless in his first season, the UMC women's tennis team improved under Lunak's guidance winning four matches in 2011 including an NSIC win over University of Mary. In 2012, the Golden Eagles were able to capture another NSIC victory against Southwest Minnesota State University. This past season, Lunak's women's tennis team captured three victories including a 9-0 sweep of Bemidji State University, the first sweep since upending University of Minnesota Morris 9-0 in 2009. The Golden Eagles picked up another NSIC victory versus Southwest Minnesota State to cap off the 2013 season.
The search for a new head women's tennis coach will begin immediately.
