Box Score 2 CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Beavers brought out the bats for a 18-0 win over the University of Minnesota Crookston in the first game of a doubleheader. In game two, the Golden Eagles road the arm of
Richie Navratil (So., P, Blansko, Czech Republic) who put together one of the best outings by a UMC pitcher this season in his seven innings. However, BSU would use a late comeback to come away with a 6-1 win in game two to earn the sweep. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-33 (0-15 NSIC) while the Beavers improve to 16-16 (7-9 NSIC).
The doubleheader served as UMC's first home games of the season on April 25, 18 days after the Golden Eagles were scheduled to have their season opener April 7 versus Northern State University. The Golden Eagles played their previous 31 games on the road or at neutral sites but were finally able to play at home due to improved field conditions.
The Beavers were without head coach Tim Bellew for both games. Bellew made the trip but was not allowed to sit on the bench due to a suspension he was serving. BSU assistant coach Dan Bennett, who played for Bellew, and has been an assistant coach the last three seasons under Bellew, served as the head coach during the two games Thursday.
Ryan Haggstrom (Fr., P/UT, Apple Valley, Minn.) got the ball in game one of the doubleheader but struggled to squash the Bemidji State bats as he would go four innings and give up eight runs, five of them earned, on nine hits. Haggstrom would get hit with the loss on the game.
The Golden Eagles would also struggle in the field in game one with five errors in the game.
Bemidji State would get out to quick 4-0 lead in the first inning starting with a Trevor Purvis double to drive in Lewis Baumann. The Beavers would continue their scoring as Jaryd Marks doubled to left field to bring Purvis home. A third run would cross, as Gavin Nichols reached on an error by catcher
Colton Haight (Fr., C/OF, Rogers, Minn.). The Golden Eagles threw out the runner at home but Haight overthrew
Jordan Prill (Sr., 1B/OF/P, Melrose, Minn.) attempting to get the double play at first allowing Marks to come home. A fourth run would score in the frame as Matt Ellinghuysen reached on an error by
Kameron Crandall (R-Fr., IF/P, Zimmerman, Minn.) allowing Jack Hegarty to score.
BSU would add three runs in the second led by a Hegarty double to left to score Kalis and a Joey Hanowski single through the right side to plate Hegarty and Marks.

Navratil and Ryan Van Someren would dominate the game early on as the game would be scoreless going into the bottom of the fifth inning.
UMC did have a scoring opportunity in the bottom of third with two outs as they got back-to-back singles from
Josh Brehmer (Jr., 2B/SS, Roseville, Minn.) and Haggstrom but would be unable to bring a run across.
The Golden Eagles took the 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Brehmer would start things as he beat out a dribbler in the infield to give UMC a base-runner. A single from Cody Jenkins would follow to move Hanowski to second. Ellinghuysen then plated the game-tying run with a single to left field to score Hanowski. A Jake Tuholsky single to left field would bring home Jenkins, which proved to be the game-winnng run.
