Golden Eagles Host Pair of Ranked Foes in No. 22 Wayne State and No. 13 Augustana to Open 2013 Home Slate
• Wiese Joins 1,000-Point Club
2011-12 All-NSIC Second Team pick Brittani Wiese has had a great first three years at UMC despite missing the end of last season due to a knee injury. The senior guard leads team in scoring averaging 13.3 points per game. Wiese became the seventh player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points Dec. 15 against University of Mary with friend and UMC all-time leading scorer Jamie Zelinsky on the
opposing bench as an assistant coach.
Wiese now has 1,040 points in her career, which is tied for fifth with Jess Forsline on the all-time scoring list at UMC. Wiese needs 50 points to move past Steph Mayclin in fourth place and 204 to move past Kari Score in third place.
•Tyson Sets Career Rebounding Record
Senior Center Laurie Tyson has been a force on the boards for her four seasons at UMC. Tyson's 10 rebounds against MSU Moorhead Jan. 4 moved her into a tie with Kari Score for the rebounding record which she officially broke with her first rebound of the game against Northern State Jan. 5. Tyson is currently averaging 8.0 rebounds per game during her senior campaign.
• Boost From The Bench
UMC's bench scored 39 of 63 points in a pivotal victory versus Northern State on the road Jan. 5. The Golden Eagles were ignited by great play from a freshman class led by forward Katrina Moenkedick, who tallied 12 points. Fellow freshmen Erika McRoberts and Christine Thorn also had great games as McRoberts had seven points and eight rebounds while Thorn had six points and four rebounds. Junior Jacy Christenson also had a great game off the bench with 12 points on four three-pointers.
• Three-Pointers
UMC is eighth in the league for three-point field goal percentage shooting 33.0 percent. The Golden Eagles are led by Jacy Christenson's 53.3 percent while Ashley Martell is shooting 42.6 percent. UMC is also doing a great job defending the trey as the Golden Eagles are third in the league in three-point percentage defense, holding teams to 28.4 percent.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston men's and women's basketball team will host Wayne State College (Neb.) and Augustana College (S.D.) as they open up their 2013 home slate. The Golden Eagle women's team will have a tough weekend as both the Vikings and Wildcats were ranked in the last USA Today Division II Coaches' Poll released Jan. 8. Wayne State is ranked No. 22 and Augustana No. 13.

Women
The UMC women's basketball team picked up an important split with a loss to Minnesota State University, Moorhead and a win over Northern State University on the road last weekend as they improved to 2-5 in the NSIC and moved into a three-way tie for sixth place in the North division with Minot State University and Bemidji State University.
The Golden Eagles continue to be led on the season by senior guard Brittani Wiese (Albertville, Minn.), who has moved into a tie for fifth place with Jess Forsline on the all-time scoring charts at UMC. Wiese comes in averaging 13.3 points per game. Ashley Martell (So., G, Somerset, Wis.) has also put together a solid sophomore campaign as she enters the weekend shooting 42.6 percent from beyond the arc and is averaging 10.0 points per game. In addition, freshman Katrina Moenkedick (F, Perham, Minn.) has been a key player in recent games as the newcomer has found a groove and is averaging 8.5 points a game. She is coming off a 12-point performance versus Northern State Saturday.

Women
Wayne State is coming off a 2011-12 NSIC Championship and a NCAA Elite Eight apperance and so far in the 2012-13 season are off to a strong start as they are currently 8-3 (4-3 NSIC) and are ranked No. 22 in the nation according in the USA Today Division II Coaches' Poll released Jan. 8. The Wildcats are led ofensively by forward Jordan Spencer's 17.1 points per game while guard Ashton Yossi (14.1 points per game) and center Ellen Hansen (10.6) points per game, also come in averaging double figures. Wayne State brings a big post presence to Crookston in 5-11 Spencer and 6-1 Hansen, along with 6-1 Kara Powell, 6-3 Shantel Lehmann and 6-6 Whitney Epp as three other threats in the post.

Women
The Augustana College Vikings were ranked No. 13 in the nation in the Jan. 8 USA Today Coaches' Poll but were defeated twice last weekend falling 80-79 Friday to Minnesota State University, Mankato and 70-61 to Concordia University, St. Paul Saturday. Augustana enters the weekend with a 9-2 (5-2 NSIC) record. The Vikings are paced by Alex Feeney's 13.5 points per game while Shaunteva Ashley comes in averaging 11.6 points per game and Emily Schulte is averaging 10.9 points per game.
