After Winning First Set Golden Eagles Fall 3-1 to Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa – The University of Minnesota, Crookston fell 3-1 to Upper Iowa University after taking the first set from the Peacocks. Upper Iowa came back after being down in both the third and fourth sets to defeat UMC. The Golden Eagles fall to 7-6 (3-3 NSIC). Upper Iowa improves to 9-6 (3-3 NSIC).
 
The Golden Eagles were led by Amanda Swann (Sr., OH, Rochester Hills, Mich.). Swann finished with 12 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. UMC hit .119 for the match. Brittany Looker (Jr., OH, Rochester, Minn.) added 11 kills and had 20 digs to notch her seventh double-double of the season. At setter, both Paige Mitchell (R-Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Lindsey Rees (R-Jr., Bronson, Mich.) had 18 assists.
 
Defensively, UMC had four players with double-figure digs. Chelsea Wiesner (Jr., Lib., Rochester, Minn.) paced the team with 23 digs while Looker added 20. Alexandra Skeeter (Jr., OH, Milwaukee, Wis.) and Mitchell added 12 digs. Katie Miedtke (Jr., MH, Maple Grove, Minn.) had three block assists.
 
Melanie Behnke led Upper Iowa with 19 kills and hit .214. Hailey Brown helped the Peacocks to a .152 hitting percentage and had 32 assists. Defensively, Upper Iowa had five players double-figure digs. Amanda Weiss had 26 while Hailey Brown had 17, Emily Sparks had 14, Danielle Gernes notched 11 and Sydney Cyzon had 10.
 
UMC took the first set after being down 21-19 in the frame to the Peacocks. The Golden Eagles' were able to knot the set 25-25 before two Mitchell service aces delivered the win in set one for UMC 27-25. The set was the sixth this season where the Golden Eagles have come back after the other team reached 20 points first.
 
Upper Iowa turned the tables in the second set to even the slate 1-1 as they took down UMC 25-12 with relative ease.
 
After being up 12-8 early in the third set, the Peacocks rattled off four points to tie it up 12-12 and from there were able to take 10 of the next 12 points. The Golden Eagles rallied late to make things interesting but Upper Iowa was able to take the set 25-23 from UMC.
 
In the fourth set, the Golden Eagles were up 20-18 but lost just their fifth set when reaching 20 first as Upper Iowa took seven of the last nine points.
