Golden Eagle Baseball Team Returns to Metrodome to Face Mayville State on Monday

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team returns to action on Monday, March 5 when they face Mayville State University in a non-conference doubleheader at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. First-pitch is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.

The Golden Eagles dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Jamestown College on Sunday, February 26 by scores of 7-0 and 8-3. U of M, Crookston is led by Mitch Allore (Sr, 1B/DH, North Mankato, Minn.) who is hitting .462 (6-13). Josh Brehmer (So, IF, Roseville, Minn.) is hitting .357 (5-14) while Charlie Pelzer (So, SS, Roseville, Minn.) is hitting .333 (4-12). Matt Korte (So, RHP/IF/OF, St. Cloud, Minn.) is 1-0 with a 0.00 earned run average (ERA) and seven strikeouts. Nick Kelzer (So, RHP, Delano, Minn.) has a 1.80 ERA with four strikeouts.

Golden Eagles vs. Mayville State University        Monday, March 5            12:15 p.m.

The Comets open the 2012 season on Wednesday, February 29 with a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Minnesota Duluth at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. Mayville State finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 27-13 and DAC-10 record of 16-6. Ricky Alvernaz hit .379 (47-124) with 40 runs batted in last season to lead the Comets. Trevor Lishanko was 5-1 on the mound with a 4.20 ERA and 26 strikeouts.
