Wiese Approaching 1,000 point Club
    2011-12 All-NSIC Second Team pick Brittani Wiese has had a great first three years at UMC despite missing the end of last season due to a knee injury. The senior guard, who leads the team in scoring averaging 16.8 points per game. Wiese currently had 961 points in her career needing only 39 to become the seventh member of the 1,000 point scoring club at UMC joining all-time scoring leader Jamie Zelinsky, Karma Plaine, Kari Score, Steph Mayclin, Jess Forsline and Bri Zabel.

Tyson Closing in on Rebound Record
    Senior Center Laurie Tyson has been a force on the boards for her four seasons at UMC. Tyson has 523 rebounds in her career and needs just 49 to surpass Kari Score's school-record of 572 boards.

Fantastic Freshman Class
    So far the Golden Eagles have gotten great production from a strong freshman class led by Alexa Thielman and redshirt freshman Jaya Perkins, who are currently starting for the Golden Eagles. Thielman is currently averaging 9.3 points per game (third on the team), while Perkins is averaging 7.0 points per game.
Katrina Moenkedick is fourth on the team in scoring with 9.0 points per game. Lindsey Lahr, Erika McRoberts, Avery Jackson and Christine Thorn have also seen game action in the first four games.

Abundance of Ties Between the Two Programs
    The two coaching staffs have an abundance of ties to the opposing program heading into the UMC and Bemidji State match-up this weekend. Mike Roysland playedbasketball for the Beavers where he was a three-year letterwinner and an All-NIC selection, graduating in 1980. Roysland was selected to the BSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
    On the other side, BSU head coach Mike Curfman was the head coach for the Golden Eagle women's basketball program from 1999-2005 where he helped lead UMC to the NSIC tournament for the first time in 2002-03 and a spot in the regional rankings in 2004-05. His assistant, Mark Bagaason played basketball at UMC and is a member of the UMC Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Scoop

    UMC and Bemidji State will meet Sat., Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at BSU Gymnasium to open up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Golden Eagles have controlled the series lately against the Beavers as they have won the last six meetings between the two universities. Bemidji State last defeated the Golden Eagles Feb. 14, 2009 in Bemidji. BSU leads the all-time series 17-13.

Previewing the Golden Eagles

    The University of Minnesota, Crookston comes into the weekend with a 3-1 mark on the season and are coming off a very successful showing at the 2012 Grand Canyon University Thanksgiving Classic last week as they picked up wins over Fort Lewis College and Western New Mexico University. The Golden Eagles have been led all season by 2011-12 All-NSIC Second Team pick Brittani Wiese, who has had a great start to the season, averaging 16.8 points per game and shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from beyond the arc. Ashley Martell (So., G, Somerset, Wis.) has also had a strong start to the season as she is averaging 12.5 points per game. Martell is 12-of-28 from beyond the arc this season. UMC comes into the weekend shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 35.8 from beyond the arc. They are averaging 74.5 points per game compared to 62.5 for their opponents.
    The Golden Eagles have also gotten great production from several freshman this season led by starting point guard Alexa Thielman (Buffalo, Minn.), who is averaging 9.3 points per game. Forward Katrina Moenkedick (Perham, Minn.) comes into the weekend averaging 9.0 points per game and is shooting 66.7 percent from the field while redshirt freshman Jaya Perkins is averaging 7.0 points per game. 
    UMC has been led on the board this season by Laurie Tyson (Rosemount, Minn.). Tyson is avearging 8.3 boards per game so far this saeson. The Golden Eagles are averaging 38.0 rebounds per game compared to their opponent's 39.0.

Previewing the Beavers

    Bemidji State University comes into the weekend with an unblemished 4-0 mark on the season with two wins over Lakehead University, a win over Mayville State University and a win over Mount Mercy University. The Beavers have had a high-powered offense so far this year scoring 82.0 points per game compared to their opponent's 71.5. BSU has been led this season by junior guard Morgan Lee, who is averaging 20.0 points per game. Lee, the daughter of BSU's all-time leading scorer on the men's side David Lee, is shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 52.8 percent from beyond the arc. She is joined by newcomer Lanae Rash, a junior college transfer, who is averaging 16.0 points per game. Rash has been a force on the boards this season for BSU, as she is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game. Junior forward Jessie Althoff, who redshirted last season due to an injury, is also averaging double-figure scoring on the season averaging 11.5 points per game.
    The Beaver offense is directed by senior Shannon Thompson, who is averaging 5.5 assist per game coming into Saturday. BSU is shooting 43.7 percent from the field this season.
    Bemidji State has been out-rebounding their opponents to the tune of 43.5 rebounds per game to 42.5 for their opponents. They have been led on the boards by Rash and senior center Emily Kaus, who is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game.
