Golden Eagles Don’t Have Answer for #1 Golden Bears

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team hosted the #1 ranked Concordia University, St. Paul this evening in Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Bears used solid defense and a .351 (46K-12E-97TA) team attack percentage to down the Golden Eagles in three sets 25-13, 25-7, 25-18.
 
Minnesota, Crookston was led by Brittany Looker (OH, 5-10, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) who tallied eight kills in the match. Setter Kelsey Matykowski (S, 5-7, Jr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) earned one kill, 15 assists and five digs. Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, So., Rochester, Minn.) led the Golden Eagle defense with 11 digs. In the third set, UMC led the Golden Bears by as many as three and tied the score 11 times before falling 25-18.
 
Concordia University, St. Paul used an 11-0 run in the second set to take the wind out of Minnesota, Crookston's sails. Taylor Fieldsted served for 10 of the 11 points and recorded four service aces. She also recorded 13 digs in the match. Kayla Koenecke led all players with 13 kills and a .500 (13K-1E-24TA) attack percentage. Amanda Konetchy tallied a match-high 39 assists while Megan Carlson led all players with 15 defensive digs. As a team, Concordia- St. Paul recorded 12 service aces and eight total blocks in the match.
 
The Golden Eagles are 4-8 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. Concordia- St. Paul advances to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston returns to the court on Saturday, September 24 to play St. Cloud State. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Lysaker Gymansium.
