Golden Eagle Volleyball Falls 3-2 to Northern State in Marathon Match

Chelsea Wiesner recorded a career-high 36 digs in the match.
(Moorhead, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team closed out the first day of the Tharaldson Classic at MSU Moorhead with a non-conference match against Northern State University. The Golden Eagles and Wolves swapped set victories (25-20, 16-25, 26-24, 22-25) and in the fifth set, Northern State downed UMC 15-8 to take the 3-2 victory. The marathon match took just over two hours.

Brittany Looker (OH, 5-10, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) led the way for the Golden Eagle offense with 13 kills. Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, Jr., Rochester, Mich.) followed Looker with 12 kills. Kelsey Matykowski (S, 5-7, Jr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) assisted on 37 kills while Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, So., Rochester, Minn.) led the team with two service aces and led all players with a career-high 36 defensive digs. Katie Miedtke (MH, 5-10, So., Maple Grove, Minn.) played strong at the net recording three solo blocks and four assisted blocks. The Golden Eagles as a team recorded 12 team blocks.

Northern State was led by Paula Martins who had 17 kills. Setter Morgan Richardson led all players with 52 assists. Kaili Aiono led all players with four service aces and 27 defensive digs.

The Golden Eagles return to the court on Saturday to play Minot State University at 12:30 p.m. and St. Cloud State University at 5:30 p.m. All matches will be held at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse on the MSU Moorhead campus.
