(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Tennis team secured its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) victory of the 2011 season defeating the University of Mary (U-Mary) 5-4 today at Center Court Fitness Center in Grand Forks, N.D. The win made it three straight for the Golden Eagles.
Amanda Pihlaja (Fr, Duluth, Minn.) picked up her third straight singles win defeating Ashley Tuschling 6-2, 6-1. Alyssa Klingenberg (So, Park Rapids, Minn.) also picked up her third straight singles victory defeating Caroline Crary 7-6, 6-4. Holly Roepke (So, Osage, Minn.) notched her third straight victory defeating Laura Doll 6-0, 6-0.
On the doubles side, Klingenberg and Roepke picked up their third straight victory defeating Tuschling and Rachael Brown 8-3. Pihlaja and Katelyn Johnson (Fr, Monticello, Minn.) also picked up their third straight win defeating Doll and Rachel Kelly 8-3.
U of M, Crookston improves to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC. The Marauders fall to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles host the University of Minnesota Duluth in an NSIC match tonight at 6 p.m.
