(Winona, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team traveled to Winona State University today to take on the Warriors to close out the 2011 season. The Golden Eagles swept WSU on October 29 in Lysaker Gymnasium 3-0. The long weekend to Upper Iowa and Winona took a toll on UMC as the Warriors were able to defeat the Golden Eagles 3-0 (20-25, 17-25, 20-25).
Danielle Rueter (OH, 5-9, Sr., Burlington, Wis.) and
Brittany Looker (OH, 5-10, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) closed out their senior and freshman season leading the Golden Eagle offense with seven kills each.
Janie Bauer (S, 5-8, Sr., Menomonie, Wis.) led UMC's trio of setters in the match with 11 assists. Libero
Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, So., Rochester, Minn.) led all players with 31 defensive digs.
Winona State was led by Rachel Polland and Bekah Saugen who finished with 10 kills each. Kayla Uhlenhake led all setters with 34 assists. Shannon McGowan finished with 25 defensive digs while Uhlenhake added five block assists.
Minnesota, Crookston finishes the season 12-18 overall and 6-14 in NSIC play. Winona State finishes 15-15 overall and 9-11 in conference play.
