Golden Eagles Fall 3-2 in Heartbreaker to Minnesota State

(Mankato, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team traveled to Mankato, Minn. this evening to take on Minnesota State in an NSIC match. The Golden Eagles defeated the Mavericks 3-0 on September 30 in Crookston. Tonight Minnesota State turned the tables on UMC using five sets to defeat Minnesota, Crookston 3-2 (25-15, 22-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-10). The teams combined for 30 tie scores and 16 lead changes in the match.
 
Brittany Looker (OH, 5-10, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) led the Golden Eagle offense tonight with 18 kills. Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, Jr., Rochester, Mich.) followed Looker with 13 kills. It's the third match in a row that Swann finished with double-digits in kills. Paige Mitchell (S, 5-11, So., West Palm Beach, Fla.) led UMC with 20 set assists. Danielle Rueter (OH, 5-9, Sr., Burlington, Wis.) had a solid evening from the service line tying a season-high and earning match-high with three service aces. Libero Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, So., Rochester, Minn.) led all players with a match-high 23 defensive digs. Morgan VanGerpen (MH, 6-0, Fr., Overland Park, Kan.) continued her strong net play with a team-high four block assists and one solo block.
 
Minnesota State was led by Chelsea Fogarty's 22 kills. Setter Brittany Stamer earned a match-high 59 assists. Samantha Dale finished the match with 20 defensive digs while Jill Storlie finished with a match-high five block assists.
 
Minnesota, Crookston moves to 11-15 overall this season and 5-11 in NSIC play. Minnesota State advances to 16-8 overall and 9-7 in conference play. The Golden Eagles return to Lysaker Gymnasium on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5. Match times are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
