(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team returned to the friendly confines of Lysaker Gymnasium today to host Winona State University. The Golden Eagles downed Upper Iowa last night 3-2 and kept the momentum going today by sweeping the Warriors 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-23) to go 2-0 in NSIC play this week. Minnesota, Crookston controlled much of the match allowing just seven tie scores and four lead changes.
Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, Jr., Rochester, Mich.) capped off a sensational weekend by leading the Golden Eagle offense for the second match in a row. Swann finished with a match-high 14 kills and a .270 (14K-4E-37TA) attack percentage.
Paige Mitchell (S, 5-11, So., West Palm Beach, Fla.) and
Kelsey Matykowski (S, 5-7, Jr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) split duties at the setter position. Mitchell finished with 20 assists while Matykowski finished with a double-double with 15 assists and 10 defensive digs. The Golden Eagle defense played outstanding accruing 12 block assists along with three players finishing in double digits in defensive digs.
Brittany Looker (OH, 5-10, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) finished with a team-high 16 digs and was followed by libero
Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, So., Rochester, Minn.) who finished with 15 and Matykowski's 10. UMC closed out set three and the match in style hitting at a .368 (19K-5E-38TA) clip to earn the sweep.
Winona State was led by Kathy Lohff and Bekah Saugen who finished with nine kills each. Kayla Uhlenhake led all players with 32 assists while Shannon McGowan led all players with 20 defensive digs.
Minnesota, Crookston advances to 11-14 overall this season and 5-10 in NSIC play. Winona State falls to 13-12 overall and 7-9 in the conference. The Golden Eagles now prepare for the team's longest mid-week road trip of the season. UMC travels to Minnesota State, Mankato on Tuesday, November 1 to play the Mavericks. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
