(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team hosted future NSIC member Minot State in a non-conference match this evening in Lysaker Gymnasium. The Beavers, who fell to the Golden Eagles 3-1 earlier this season, found themselves reliving the same fate as UMC defeated Minot again tonight 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-20) in the team's annual “Dig Pink” match.
Katie Miedtke (MH, 5-10, So., Maple Grove, Minn.) was the catalyst for the Golden Eagles tonight on both sides of the ball. Miedtke finished with 10 kills, a .368 (10K-3E-19TA) attack percentage, one solo block and tied a match-high with five assisted blocks.
Brittany Looker (OH, 5-10, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) led the UMC offense and all players with a match-high 17 kills and added 13 digs. Libero
Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, So., Rochester, Minn.) led all players with 21 digs and has recorded 20 or more digs in five consecutive contests. She also led all players and tied a season-high with four service aces.
Paige Mitchell (S, 5-11, So., West Palm Beach, Fla.) and
Janie Bauer (S, 5-8, Sr., Menomonie, Wis.) continue to put up solid numbers at the setter position. Mitchell finished with 21 assists while Bauer finished with 19. The Golden Eagles as a team finished with a season-high 13 total blocks that included 18 block assists. The UMC defense also held the Beaver offense to a .057 (37K-29E-141TA) attack percentage following a first set that saw Minot hit .500.
Minot State was led by Jen Dixon and Janice Reinbolt who tallied 13 and 12 kills respectively. Emily Byrne recorded 33 of the team's 34 total assists. Defensively, Dixon led the Beavers with 16 total digs while Kelsey Wingo and Sara Friesen led the squad in blocks with one solo and four assisted.
Minnesota, Crookston is 9-13 overall this season. Minot State falls to 9-10 overall on the season. The Golden Eagles return to NSIC play on Friday, October 21 when the team travels to MSU Moorhead to play the Dragons. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
