(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team returns to the court tonight when they host Northern State University at 7 p.m. The team goes on the road on Friday and Saturday when they play at Wayne State at 7 p.m. and at Augustana at 5:30 p.m.
Minnesota, Crookston (8-10, 3-6 NSIC)- The Golden Eagle Volleyball team went 1-1 on the weekend. UMC fell to Northern State on Friday 3-0 before defeating Mary 3-0 on Saturday. Minnesota, Crookston was led offensively by
Brittany Looker (OH, 5-10, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) who had 22 kills good for a 3.67 kill/set average.
Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, Jr., Rochester, Mich.) had a sensational weekend finishing with 18 kills, just three errors and an outstanding .349 attack percentage. Libero
Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, So., Rochester, Minn.) closed out the weekend with 34 digs, a 5.67 dig/set average.
Katie Miedtke (MH, 5-10, So., Maple Grove, Minn.) had an all around great weekend finishing with 13 kills and 11 total blocks.
Northern State (8-8, 3-6 NSIC)- NSU's Morgan Richardson (S, 6-1, Fr., Cave Creek, Ariz./Pinnacle HS) posted 58 assists, 23 digs, four blocks and three service aces to lead the Wolves to a weekend split against Minnesota, Crookston and MSU Moorhead. Richardson had 30 assists, 10 digs and two of those aces in Friday night's straight-sets win over UMC. She also had one solo and one assisted block in the winning effort.
Wayne State (13-5, 6-3 NSIC)- Tali Fredrickson, a 5-7 senior outside hitter from Grand Island, Nebraska (Central Catholic HS), had two double-doubles over the weekend averaging 3.10 kills and 4.40 digs per set in Wayne State's five-set wins over #19 Minnesota State and #6 Southwest Minnesota State. Fredrickson had 10 kills and 20 digs in Friday's win over Minnesota State and followed that with 21 kills and 24 digs in Saturday's five-set win over the #6 Mustangs. Fredrickson now has nine double-doubles on the season for the 13-5 Wildcats, 6-3 in the NSIC. Tatum Wroblewski, a 5-7 sophomore setter from St. Paul, Nebraska, averaged 8.30 assists and 2.90 digs per set in Wayne State's five set wins over Top 25 NSIC foes Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State. Wroblewski had 37 assists with four service aces and nine digs Friday vs. #19 Minnesota State and accounted for 46 assists with 20 digs in Saturday's five-set win over #6 SMSU. Leigh Connot, a 5-8 senior from Lincoln, Nebraska, averaged 4.70 digs per set over the weekend. She had 24 digs Friday night vs. #19 Minnesota State and added 23 digs in Saturday's five-set win over #6 Southwest Minnesota State.
Augustana (10-7, 4-5 NSIC)- Holly Hafemeyer (MB, 6-2, So., Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) blasted 17 kills on 49 attacks with just two errors to hit .306, while also blocking six balls in Augustana's five set match against No. 19 Minnesota State. She added another seven kills and hit .316 against Southwest Minnesota State for a total of 24 kills (3.0 kills per set) in the weekend. Other weekend totals for Hafemeyer include hitting .309 and recording two digs and 13 blocks (1.62 per set). Setter: Kayla Wallerich (DS/S, 5-9, So., Marshall, Minn./Marshall HS) recorded a career-high 53 assists, helping push Augustana into a fifth set with No. 19 Minnesota State last Saturday. She also led the team in digs for the weekend, recording 14 against No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State and another 13 against MSU. Wallerich totaled 83 assists (10.38 per set), four kills, one service ace, 27 digs and five blocks in the two matches. The two double-doubles she recorded puts her at a team-high five for the season. Kayla Wallerich (DS/S, 5-9, So., Marshall, Minn./Marshall HS) had 27 digs (3.38 per set) last weekend to lead Augustana. The sophomore also led the Vikings in assists during their two matches to record a pair of double-doubles. She tallied 30 assists and 14 digs against Southwest Minnesota State and added 53 assists and 13 digs against Minnesota State. Her totals for the weekend include 83 assists, five blocks, four kills and one service ace.
