Minot, N.D. -- Minot State exploded for 23 runs on Sunday afternoon in Minot, sweeping Minnesota Crookston by scores of 11-2 and 12-4 in NSIC softball action.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 11-30 (5-11 NSIC).
Game One
The Golden Eagles would actually jump out to an early 1-0 lead in their first at-bats, striking for a run on a Megan Surgenor (Fr., 1B/P, Andover, Minn.) double, scoring Madisen Yandle (So., SS, Lakeville, Minn.).
MSU would answer with two straight runs, but Chayse Doering (So., OF, Shakopee, Minn.) would hit her second home run of the season, a solo home run to tie the game at two. It was the Golden Eagles first home run in 21 games and the first over-the-fence home run in 27 games for the maroon and gold.
The big inning for the Beavers would be in the fifth, as they would score nine runs in the fifth to end the game and get the conference win.
The Golden Eagles finished with four hits in the game.
Charlotte Dombrowski (Sr., P, Valparaiso, Ind.) picked up the loss in the circle, falling to 5-6, while giving up eight earned runs on seven hits.
Game Two
In game two, MISU would have another big inning, scoring five runs in the second to take an early 5-0 advantage.
The Golden Eagles would do a nice job to try and chip away. Rayna French (So., C/OF, La Salle, Manitoba), who had three more hits on the day, would start the scoring for the Golden Eagles with a single up the middle, scoring Valerie VanZant (So., IF, Salina, Kan.). Doering would deliver two more RBI with a double, cutting the Beaver lead to 5-3.
The Beavers would answer with three more of their own in the bottom half of the third.
Surgenor would collect another RBI knock, scoring French to cut the Beaver lead in half.
MISU would score three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to mercy rule the Golden Eagles for the second straight game.
The Golden Eagles finished with nine hits, led by French, who was 3-3 with two runs scored.
Riley Blake (So., P/OF, Las Vegas, Nev.) fell to 0-2 in the circle, giving up eight earned runs in three innings of work, while walking six.
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will be back on the road next Friday for a doubleheader with Minnesota Duluth, before returning home for their home opener with Bemidji State on Sunday.
