Smithville, Mo. -- Marc Bofarull Balleste (Jr., Barcelona, Spain) won his second tournament of the season and Jack Justesen (So., Hawley, Minn.) tied a school record with a final day 67, helping the Golden Eagles move up three spots during the final round and finish in third out of 15 teams at the NSIC Conference Preview.
Bofarull Balleste shot 141 through 36 holes, tying with Peyton Coahran of Winona State for first place. Bofarull Balleste defeated Coahran in the playoff to take home first place.
Justesen tied four other Golden Eagles for the lowest rounds in program history; Jake Sanders, Devin Kucy and his current teammates, Bofarull Balleste and Holdyn Evjen (So., Hermantown, Minn.) each shot 67 in a round.
Additionally, the Golden Eagles tied their second best team round in program history, shooting 285 on the day.
Winona State won the tournament by shooting two under par. Augustana finished two strokes ahead of the Golden Eagles for second place. Concordia-St. Paul finished a stroke behind the Golden Eagles for fourth place, while Bemidji State rounded out the top five.
Justesen's outstanding day catapulted the sophomore 56 spots, finishing in a three-way tie for 14th. The scorecard for the Hawley native was something to behold, as he finished with five birdies and an eagle on hole 14.
Andrew Wilhelm (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) was solid throughout the whole tournament, finishing in a tie for 26th.
Connor Czirjak (Jr., Calgary, Alberta) also moved up the leaderboard throughout the final day, moving up 31 spots after shooting a 72 to finish in 39th.
As a team, the Golden Eagles had 23 birdies on the day.
The third place finish marks the fourth straight finish inside the top-three for the maroon and gold, dating back to the fall season.
Minnesota Crookston will head to Pittsburg, Kan., next week for another challenging tournament at the Silverback Invite, hosted by Pittsburg State.
