Topeka, Kan. -- Minnesota Crookston ended their trip with a game against Washburn on Sunday afternoon. The Ichabods scored five straight runs to upend the Golden Eagles, 5-1.
Minnesota Crookston returns home with a 2-12 record.
The Golden Eagles would strike first in the game, as Jocelyn Hernandez (So., OF, Tracy, Calif.) would steal home on a Megan Surgenor (Fr., P, Andover, Minn.) strikeout.
The Ichabods would score a pair of runs in the first inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Washburn would double their lead in the second inning, scoring two more runs.
The middle innings would be a stalemate, but the Ichabods would finally cross home plate in the sixth inning with a homerun.
That would be more than enough, as the Ichabods would win the game, 5-1.
Chayse Doering (So., OF, Shakopee, Minn.) led the way with two hits, while Rayna French (Jr., C, La Salle, Manitoba), Irelyn Spencer (R-Jr., IF, Rapid City, S.D.) and Riley Blake (So., P/OF, Las Vegas, Nev.) each had a hit as part of five team hits for the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles left four runners on the bases.
Surgenor got the start in the circle, but gave up four earned runs in an inning and a third. Valerie VanZant (Fr., MIF/P, Salina, Kan.) was outstanding in relief, giving up a lone run in 4.2 innings of work, while striking out five.
