Minnesota Crookston Volleyball Swept by Winona State on Homecoming Friday

Crookston, Minn. -- Minnesota Crookston dropped a pair of tight sets in the first and second set and lost control of the third set, falling to Winona State in straight sets (18-25, 22-25, 9-25) on Homecoming Friday in NSIC volleyball action.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-15 (1-9 NSIC).

Set One

Set one would be literally back-and-forth.

The first set would see a whopping 13 ties early on, as both teams would be tied at 13, before Minnesota Crookston would finally gain separation and take a 15-13 lead following a kill from Carizma Muth (Sr., OH, Randolph, Wis.).

Following that kill, WSU would score seven in a row, but Brooklyn Gysbers (Fr., OH, White Bear Lake, Minn.) would end the run with a kill.

WSU would win the first set by seven.

Set Two

Once again, the set would be nip-and-tuck and would see neither team gain a lead until WSU would extend their lead to 15-9.

Minnesota Crookston would slowly start to chip away, starting with an Emma Malek (Sr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) kill and a Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) service ace.

The Golden Eagles would trail 17-12, but three straight from the Golden Eagles would make it 17-15.

The Golden Eagles would take a 19-18 lead following one of Carsten's six kills.

Tied at 21, WSU would score two straight, but another big swing from Carsten would cut the Warrior lead to one, but WSU would score the final two points for the three point win.

Set Three

Minnesota Crookston would lose set three and the match in straight sets.

Individual Stats

Lexi Scharold (Jr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) led the way with seven kills on 14 total attacks. Carsten added six kills and Bella Peters (Fr., MH, Altona, Manitoba) finished with five kills.

Carsten also led the way with 12 digs.
