Crookston, MN – Minnesota Crookston posted a solid set against Concordia Saint Paul, then lost momentum in the second and third sets, falling short to CSP in all three sets (20-25, 9-25, 13-25) on this Homecoming Saturday in NSIC volleyball.
Minnesota Crookston drop to 3-16 (1-10 NSIC).
Set One
Set one would start off slow for the Golden Eagles, but they rallied to bring it to a close.
CSP takes the first three points, causing UMC to take an early timeout to get their feet under them and figure out what they need to do. Lexi Scharold (Jr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) would get the first kill from a beautiful set by Ellery Ehresmann (So., S, Albany, Minn.) to put the Golden Eagles on the board.
Up until the score was 15-9, the Golden Eagles struggled to keep the Golden Bears within distance of taking the set. Bella Peters (Fr., MH, Altona, Manitoba), who ended up having a career day, was able to bring the Golden Eagles into striking distance with a big kill; however, they were a little late in doing so, allowing CSP to win the first set by five.
Set Two
Set two, like set one, started a little rough for UMC, with losing four points before getting a point. They tried to keep it close but started to lose their grip once Carizma Muth (Sr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) got a kill, bringing them within five at 10-5. Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) had some nice kills and would be the last of the Golden Eagles in this set to get a kill, only bringing UMC to score 9 points. CSP took the second.
Set Three
The Golden Eagles were able to keep the lead to a minimum from CSP with a back-to-back kill by Peters and Carsten. The gap from CSP continued as they took the lead (11-4), but Crookston tried to rally but could only get 13 points, letting Concordia Saint Paul take the lead and end the final set by 12 points.
Individual Stats
Peters led the Golden Eagles, breaking away from her previous career-high of six kills to get seven kills on 15 total attacks. Both Carsten and Muth put up six kills, with Sharold and Emma Malek (Sr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) not far behind with four kills.
Carsten finished the match with digs with eight. The senior now sits just 12 digs away from 1,000 in her career. Adrienne Venditto (So., DS, Bovey, Minn.) ended with seven digs; Carizma Muth takes third with a total of six digs, and the freshman added on to her career night as Peters, finished the night with five digs.
