Golden Eagles Swept By No. 15 St. Cloud State

St. Cloud, Minn. -- Nationally-ranked St. Cloud State defeated Minnesota Crookston in straight sets (14-25, 20-25, 14-25) on Saturday afternoon in Halenbeck Hall.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-14 (1-8 NSIC).

Set One

SCSU would take an early 8-1 lead in the set, but Lexi Scharold (Jr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) would finish off a kill to make it 8-2.

SCSU would later extend their lead to 17-6, but three straight from the Golden Eagles, highlighted by a pair of kills from Carizma Muth (Sr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) would make it 17-9.

SCSU would win the first set by 11.

Set Two

It would be a great start for the Golden Eagles, who would score the first two of the set, with the help of an Ellery Ehresmann (So., S, Albany, Minn.) service ace and a duo block from Scharold and Bella Peters (Fr., MH, Altona, Manitoba).

Later, a Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) kill and another big duo block, this time by Brooklyn Gysbers (Fr., OH, White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Emma Malek (Sr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) would give the Golden Eagles a two point lead at 9-7.

With the set tied at 10, SCSU would score three straight, but Gysbers would end the run with a kill.

With the Golden Eagles down five at 23-18, Muth would finish a kill and Ehresmann would collect another service ace, but the Huskies would pull away for the five point win.

Set Three

SCSU would have another quick start and take an 8-3 lead, but back-to-back kills from Carsten would make it 8-5.

The Huskies would later pull away in the set and win the match in straight sets.

Individual Stats

Carsten finished the night with nine kills and nine digs. Muth and Scharold each added six kills apiece.
