Crookston, Minn. - The Golden Eagles are heading to Bottineau this weekend to play Dakota College at Bottineau for the second time this season. This will end the Golden Eagles regular season as they prepare for the WCCHA Tournament. The Golden Eagles are coming off of a much needed bounceback weekend after they were swept by the Golden Gophers. This past weekend, the Golden Eagles had an incredibly tight game Friday, tying the game in the final minute of regulation and winning it less than a minute into overtime. Saturday, the Golden Eagles left no doubt on if they were the better team, beating South Dakota State University 5-1.
The Golden Eagles and Lumberjacks have met 12 times, with the Golden Eagles winning 11. The only Golden Eagles' loss in this series was the second game in series history. The Golden Eagles have scored 67 goals in those 12 games, averaging 5.58 goals per game. They have allowed 28 goals for 2.33 goals against per game. The matchup we will look back on this weekend is the Golden Eagles' 8-2 win over the Lumberjacks in Bottineau on December 9th, 2023. In that game, now captain Logan Syrup (5th, F, Park River, N.D.) led the way with a hat trick plus an assist as the Golden Eagles went into their winter break on a high note.
This week's Golden Eagle Player to Watch is Brody Nordmark (Fr., D, Souris, N.D.) who has three goals and nine assists for 12 points this season. Nordmark has solidified himself as a strong part of the Golden Eagles' blue line this season and has shown growth in his game on both ends of the ice. His play has even landed him some minutes in the top four as of late. Nordmark has been a strong presence all season, and he will be a key contributor to the Golden Eagles in the postseason.
The Golden Eagles and Lumberjacks will face off at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
