Turnovers Doom Golden Eagles in Loss to Wayne State College on Wednesday

Wayne, Neb. -- In a game that was rescheduled twice, Wayne State College used a large second half run to upend Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday night in NSIC men's basketball action, 79-62.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-15.

WSC would jump out to an early 8-3 lead, but the maroon and gold would answer with five straight on a three from Donez Lindsey (Fr., G, Stockton, Calif.) and a dunk from Alijah Washington (R-Jr., G, San Jose, Calif.).

Two possessions later, Lindsey would give the Golden Eagles a 12-11 lead. Lindsey would commit three first half fouls, but score a team-high 14 points in the first half.

Eight minutes into the half, Kazadi Mukoma, Jr. (Jr., F, Grand Island, Neb.) would rattle in a straightaway three to give the Golden Eagles a 17-15 advantage.

J.D. Roberts (Jr., F, Parkville, Mo.) and Brayden Carlson (Fr., C, Woodbury, Minn.) would finish layups to give the Golden Eagles a 25-21 lead.

WSC would finish the half with seven straight to head into the halftime break with a 10 point advantage.

It would be a fantastic start to the second half for the Golden Eagles, as they would look to Washington within five with the first five points of the half.

Wayne State would answer with another large run to take a 51-35 lead, but Spencer Swenson (Fr., F, Sauk Rapids, Minn.) would end the run with a layup in the paint.

WSC would extend their lead all the way to 21 and Minnesota Crookston would try to chip away, but WSC would maintain their cushion and pull away for the 17 point win.

Lindsey led the way with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Roberts added 11 points and seven rebounds. Washington and Swenson combined for 16 points.

The difference maker was the turnover numbers. Minnesota Crookston finished with 17, resulting in 17 points for the Wildcats.

Minnesota Crookston is back in action on Friday as they head to the Stewart Center for a date with Sioux Falls. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
